Global Statistics
There are several online services which provide general website statistics reports. StatCounter is one of the more well-known: it analyses data from 3 million websites across the world to gather meaningful statistics. The information is useful, but you should be careful when using the data to make business decisions. Just remember:

How Browser Market Share is Calculated.

I post a browser market share report every month or two. I hope you find them interesting or at least revel in the news that IE6 usage is dropping. However, they often result in more questions than they answer. This is my attempt at explaining how browser market share is calculated. It’s a theoretical overview rather than a mathematical thesis and calculation methods will differ from system to system.

Lies, damn lies and statistics

…and then there’s web statistics. Collating information from web browsers is notoriously difficult — see Why Your Website Statistics Reports Are Wrong. StatCounter and Google Analytics produce great-looking reports with figures to several decimal places but you should be aware that analysis is based on a hierarchy of assumptions.
That’s not to say web statistics are useless. They’re great for spotting trends, but attempting map results onto the activities of individual users is often futile.

Google has done it. Despite being half the age Mozilla’s browser, Chrome has overtaken Firefox to become the world’s second favorite (or most-used) browser. Chrome may only have a 0.5% advantage but it’s enough. Let’s look at the latest worldwide StatCounter statistics:

Mozilla Pushes Firefox 3.6 Update

If you’re still using Firefox 3.6 or below, you’ll soon be prompted to upgrade to version 8.0. Following several postponements, Mozilla has finally pushed the kill-switch which should bring most users up to date.
Firefox 3.6 was released in January 2010 but the 3.0 codebase originally shipped in June 2008. That feels a little ancient now and, while 3.6 remains a capable browser, it’s relatively slow and doesn’t support many of the new HTML5 facilities Mozilla introduced in version 4 and above. Currently, around 7.5% of web users retain Firefox 3.x or below — it will be interesting to assess the impact of the recommended upgrade on Firefox’s market share.

What’s New in Opera 11.60

Unlike certain browser vendors I could mention, Opera makes an effort to add shiny new features when they release an update. Version 11.60 is no exception although few users will notice changes unless they’re using:
  • Opera’s built-in email client — it’s been redesigned, or
  • the address field — it has a new quick bookmarking/speed-dial star icon
Apart from various bug fixes, all the exciting enhancements are under the hood in the Presto 2.10 rendering engine. Developers: prepare to tinker…

Some people say that to work more efficiently, one has to start on a clean slate. The same is true with your computer. Sometimes, your computer system can be in chaos when you forget to keep it clean (memory and disk-wise).  Sooner or later, you would end up with data corrupted and all your hard work would be put to waste.
It is something any computer user would not want to deal with, thus, you, being one of them must install a registry cleaner to keep your computer out of such mess. The secret in making your computer fast is to keep your registry clean. This is because your registry may get too congested with some of the commands that overstayed there when you installed and uninstalled several softwares. To be honest about it, most of the commands from software can crowd up your system and before you know it, they have already created havoc in your computer.
